The Better Business Bureau is a nonprofit organization that is focused on advancing marketplace trust.

Overview:

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is a membership and accreditation program that aims to advance marketplace trust. A business that affiliates with the BBB will adhere to their eight standards, and abide by them through industry self-regulation. There are almost 400,000 local businesses that are accredited by the BBB in North America. These due-paying accredited businesses pledge to continue to adhere to the BBB Code of Business Practices.

BBB Standards for Trust

  • Maintain a positive track record in the marketplace

  • Advertise honestly

  • Tell the truth

  • Be transparent

  • Honor promises

  • Be responsive (address marketplace disputes)

  • Safeguard privacy (protect consumer data)

  • Embody integrity

BBB Accreditation

A business can become accredited by the BBB by filling out the accreditation form from their Local BBB. If the BBB determines that the business meets their accreditation standards, which includes a commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve consumer complaints, then they can pay an accreditation review and monitoring fee for consideration.
