New
Winter Hours
Uptown
Hounds will be adjusting our opening hours for winter. Our new
hours of operation beginning November 30th, 2009, will be from
10:00 am until 7:00 pm Monday through Saturday and 12:00 pm until
7:00 pm on Sunday. If you have previously made a reservation and
planned a drop-off or pick-up between 7:00pm and 7:00pm for dates after
November 30th, we will accommodate you.
Reception will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 26th, but
don’t worry about your dog being alone for Turkey Day. Our dedicated
Pet Services Team will be here to pamper your pet while they are staying at
our resort. Reception will also be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas
Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day.

Holiday Boarding…Ease the Jitters
Are you nervous about boarding
your dog during the holidays? Boarding can be a stressful
experience—sometimes more for you than your dog! Perhaps they have
never stayed away from home, or just not at Uptown Hounds. Uptown
Hounds’ resort is designed to minimize stress for our guests, but we have
another great way to ease your worries and prepare your dog for
boarding. Use our daycare program as a “warm up!”
Not only will your dogs learn that Uptown Hounds is a fun place to be, but
since they will only be here for a short time, they will be assured that
you do return. When you pick up your happy dogs at the end of the
day, you will both feel better about leaving them with us for a longer
stay.
With Thanksgiving and Christmas fast approaching, be sure to make your
dog’s reservations soon!

Grooming
It’s
time to make those Holiday grooming appointments. For glamorous dogs or
cats try nail polish, bows, bandanas, scarves with bells or Soft ClawsÒ
nail caps for the holidays. The nail caps come in a variety of colors
so your pet can match your holiday attire.
Also remember that throughout the remainder of the cold season, pets need
to maintain regular monthly grooming appointments. Skin, coats, and
paw pads dry out and need moisturized. Conditioners, hot oil
treatments, oatmeal baths, and paw balm can all help. Although
haircuts in longer lengths can keep your pet warm, only brushed out, matt
free hair can act as insulation! Double coated hair types like Corgis,
German Shepherds, and Huskies need the loose shedding hair removed so that
the skin can breathe and the undercoat has room to trap warm body heat.
Matt-free coats also let the moisture resisting oils cover the whole hair
shaft and not let body chilling snow and rain get to the skin.
We hope to see you in our grooming salon this Holiday Season!
Tracy, NCMG
