Holiday Boarding. Ease the Jitters!
Are
you nervous about boarding your dog during the holidays? Boarding can
be a stressful experience; sometimes more for you than your dog!
Perhaps they have never stayed away from home, or just not at Uptown
Hounds. Uptown Hounds resort is designed to minimize stress for our
guests, but we have another great way to ease your worries and prepare your
dog for boarding. Use our daycare program as a "warm up!"
Not only will your dogs learn that Uptown Hounds is a fun place to be, but
since they will only be here for a short time, they will be assured that
you do return. When you pick up your happy dogs at the end of the
day, you will both feel better about leaving them with us for a longer
stay.

You
and your dogs start the day with a 15-minute interview, and then they spend
the day being introduced to the play groups and evaluated to assure safe
play. When you pick-up at the end of the day, you will receive a
report on how the day went, and they will be good and tired from a day of
play!

You decide
your check-in time to be anytime during our opening hours (Mon-Sat 8am to
8pm and Sun Noon to 8pm), and your check-out time is just the same on the
last day of your stay. No-hassle convenience!

Once evaluated and approved, your dogs may participate in daycare which
operates Monday-Friday, 7:00am to 6:00pm. In addition, you may take advantage
of daycare while staying in the hotel. They play with the same
buddies they're used to during the day, and spend the evenings in a private
hotel room. Daycare and familiarization have many benefits for you and your
dogs. Think how much better you will feel this holiday season knowing your
dogs are having the time of their lives at their resort!

Photography, this Uptown Hounds open house is sure to start your holiday
season off right. The Uptown Café will be serving holiday treats for you
and your hound, and the boutique will be filled with Christmas items and
more that make great gifts for the pet or pet-enthusiast in your life!
Pet psychic, Latifa Meena, will also be on hand for readings. $25 for 15
minute reading. During open house, but by appointment only. $5 of
each reading will be donated to local humane societies December 6: Woodford
Humane Society, December 13: Lexington Humane Society.

No Leftovers for Rover
The
holiday season is a delectable time for feasting on all of our favorite
indulgences. The desire to share these treats with man's best friend is
very tempting. However, treating them to something special could actually
be causing them great harm.
The rise of pancreatitis in dogs is most evident during this festive time
of year. Pancreatitis is the inflammation of the pancreas. The pancreas is
in charge of the production of insulin, which controls the body's blood
sugar level. It is also responsible for making digestive enzymes crucial to
normal food digestion. When the pancreas is inflamed it prohibits the
digestive enzymes from leaving the pancreas. The pancreas literally begins
to "digest itself," damaging the tissues that created them.
Though the cause of this illness in dogs is not entirely known, dogs with a
diet high in fat are known to be more prone to the illness. The best way to
avoid pancreatitis is to stick with your dog's current low-fat diet and
keep all the leftovers to yourself.

Canine Musical Freestyle Workshop
The last
workshop was such a hit, Uptown Hounds is offering another!
Saturday, November 15
9:00am-3:00pm
Canine musical freestyle is a fun new sport that gives dogs the opportunity
to not only work their bodies, but also their minds. It is a precision
routine of obedience and trained tricks, choreographed to music, creating a
dance partnership between dog and handler.
This workshop will cover the following topics: What is Canine Freestyle?
Training Techniques: Positive and Fun. Music & Movement.
Creating Your Own Style. Choreography with your Canine. Filling Space.
Creative Presentation.
$50/working spot, $30/auditing
